Marathon Monday: training update

This last week wasn’t quite what I had hoped it would be. Life has been crazy, my family is going through a rough October. I was supposed to run a half marathon Saturday but opted not to. I was emotionally and physically exhausted. By the time I was home Friday night, nothing was ready to go for race day. My mind and heart just weren’t in it. Sometimes that’s how life goes.

We had a good weekend though. Ally’s softball team played in a tournament, they had 5 games Saturday then went back Sunday morning. It was single elimination Sunday so after losing the first game they were done. I was sad for them, they played great, but I was happy to have my Sunday back!

She was not happy about the 5:30AM alarm two days in a row. I got to sleep in so I was happy.

After softball was over Sunday we headed to Cracker Barrel for a late breakfast. I love looking through the store there. This giant size Snickers bar was quite tempting. You can’t quite see how big it is in the picture, but it says “slice n share” on it. And there was a huge Hershey’s bar under it.

Since we were near the Asics outlet store I had to stop and get shoes. I will need a new pair soon anyway. I decided to try the Asics Gel Evate. I have been in the Cumulus for a while and these are in the same class, but have a little more cushioning in the toe.

7 weeks to go until the Dallas Marathon! The weeks are flying by!

marathon training

Training last week:

Monday: Rest day

Tuesday: Track workout, 6×800 with 400 recovery, 2 mile warm up

Wednesday: Rest day

Thursday: 3 miles plus the gym

Friday: Rest day

Saturday: Unplanned rest day, was supposed to be a half race.

Sunday: Rest day

I’m thinking about signing up for a half this coming weekend since I still want that PR. I need 18 miles though so trying to figure out how to add the extra 5. I don’t want to run before the race so maybe after I can do a 5 mile recovery run or maybe run 5 on Saturday. I have never split a long run like that, but I’ve read people do it.

I had a lot of friends that raced this last weekend and hit PR’s and milestones, I’m so proud of them!

Did you race this weekend?

Get a long run in?

Have you ever split a long run over 2 days?

Happy running,
