Had a pretty exciting weekend. Ally and I both placed in a 5k we ran on Saturday. I had a 8 mile training run, then ran a 5k to get 11 miles in. Ally placed 1st in her age group and I came in 1st overall female. I am still shocked! We both have some new goals now.
Ally wants to get her 5k under 26 minutes, which should be doable, she’s done it before. And she has decided to run a 10k this summer, most likely in July.
This might be the hardest 5k I’ve ever run and the first one I wanted to quit. I know I didn’t hydrate well on Friday, and yes I had just run 8 miles. I had about 30 minutes to rest in between though. I got about 1/2 way through and my sides were hurting so bad I actually stopped for about 3 seconds and thought about just walking.
I had just passed someone from the running club who told me I was the first female and I think that was the only thing that got me going again. Could I really win this race? I didn’t realize I had this competitive streak in me!
I knew I had only about a mile left and I knew the course so that made it a little easier but I was worn out. It took a while to recover and I’m pretty sure dehydration was setting in. But I’m proud I “sucked it up” and kept going.
And I’m super proud of my daughter!
#GoalsCheck Monday!
- Run a good 5k – check!
- I was supposed to run that 8 miles at a 10 minute pace, I’ve been sore and decided to slow things down but that didn’t work out.
- Water – good for the week, but not good on Friday
- Weights – good, upped my leg press to 95 pounds
- I’ve put on a few pounds I need to get off, I know it’s not just muscle. I tried on some clothes from last summer and a few are too tight…YIKES!
- So that brings me to food….need to get back on track!
Active Accessories Giveaway!
*I received a complimentary product from Active Accessories but all opinions are my own.Have you heard of Active Accessories? They make some fun workout/running accessories ~ hair ties and an accessory pouch (more on this one later!). They sent me a set of the On The Go Hair Bands to try out and a set to give away! The hair ties are bright colors and they have a few in there that say RUN so I’m kinda partial to those. They are made from a soft, stretchy elastic ribbon. I have been using hair ties for a while but I have basic colors like black, brown and grey, so these are quickly becoming my favorite ones! I wore the RUN ones as a bracelet this weekend.
My nice, slow, flat recovery walk/run on Sunday!
If you want to try to win a set of these awesome hair ties you just have to enter via the Rafflecopter below. You can also order a set here, they ship for free!
The sweepstakes will run from Monday, April 29 at 8AM until Friday, May 3 at 8PM CST. The winner will be announced Saturday, May 4. No purchase necessary to enter. Must be a resident of the US to enter and void where prohibited by law.
Hope you all had a great weekend! Did anyone race? Reach any new goals?
I don’t have a runner’s body, but I have a runner’s heart – and that is all you need.
