Fitness Friday!

Wait, isn’t every day fitness Friday around here? I guess not every day.

FitnessFridayRev3

It’s the start of week 3 of our Too Hot to Handle challenge. We are doing Mountain Climbers this week! You excited? Talk about getting your heart rate up and working your core.

There’s a demo video here. You can adjust the speed on these, fast or slow, go your pace. This guy has 8 wicked mountain climber variations posted here! I’ll try a few of those this week! Start out with 30 seconds, work your way up. Do a few each day, whatever you are comfortable with. The goal is to try something new and to build on that.

Don’t forget to use the Twitter and Instagram hashtag #thth. I want to see your progress in pictures!

The winner of the Scentsy giveaway is Angie Dickerson! Watch for an email from me today.

Did you have a Valentine date last night? What was your workout today?

What I Ate (and did) Wednesday

It’s What I Ate Wednesday time!

Had my usual bagel with peanut butter and banana before going to the gym. When I got back I was in need of a snack so I made a yummy protein shake with strawberries, banana and peaches.

photo-3

For lunch I made chicken salad with onion and apples in it. Had that with a few Ritz chips, carrots and some colby cheese.

Dinner tonight will be Subway. I usually get the turkey sandwich. Gotta stay away from the cookies though!

Workout was great this morning! I ran 2 miles on the treadmill and then hit the weights. I upped my weight on the shoulder press. I wasn’t feeling any soreness so I decided it was time to move up. Got 80 sit-ups done, 2 minutes of Russian Twists, lots of stretching and of course PLANKS!

I found a Virtual race I think I’ll sign up for. It’s in April and benefits March of Dimes. I’ve done races with Running In Sanity before and they are legit! You can find the info here. Let me know if you sign up. You can run, walk, skip, bike or swim these virtual races! It’s not limited to running!

I signed up to get theses quotes from Runner’s World and I love them!

To finish will leave you feeling like a champion and positively change your life.

Killer workouts!

I’ve been struggling with my Asics hurting the top of my right foot. I’ve put bandaids and mole skin on when I run but it still feels bruised after. So, before I get drastic and take yet another pair of shoes back I researched ways to lace your running shoes. I found exactly what I was looking for here. You can see in the picture my right shoe is laced differently. There are several things you can correct with lacing your shoes differently~ black toenails, shoes being too tight, the pain on top of your foot (hot spots) and heel sliding are just a few.

I tried it out for 2 miles on the treadmill Sunday and no pain. I gave it another try this morning on the treadmill and it’s still feeling good! Hopefully I am good to go!

I’m not a fan of treadmill runs but I have to do them sometimes. This morning it was raining pretty good, 46 degrees and 10 mph wind…I wasn’t feeling it! So, I hit the gym for 2 miles on the treadmill and weights, ab work and planks. I got my Russian twists in for the Too Hot to Handle challenge, I did some tortuous leg thing where I pushed a mat across the gym floor! My legs will be screaming tomorrow!

I did these planks on a Bosu ball, thanks to my friend Jill who showed me how to use it! I’m trying not to be gym equipment challenged anymore! We flipped it over where the “ball” was on the ground and held on for dear life to the base of the bosu ball. I could feel those planks high in my abs where I don’t usually feel them.

It’s 11 days until the Cowtown 5k and 12 days until the Cowtown Half marathon! I’m excited about the Cowtown challenge (running 2 races in a weekend).

Don’t forget we have the Scentsy giveaway going on here.

What was your workout today? Anyone training for any races coming up? What killer workouts are you doing?

Rest day, Book Club and I’m a Handful!

It’s Monday again. It’s my rest day, I’d say 99% of the time I rest on Monday, it works out since most of what I’m involved in happens to fall on a Monday night. One of those things is Book Club! It’s a great group of friends, we actually do talk about the book, some more than others but it’s a great time for us girls to get together and socialize too!

This year we’ve read some great books, some I liked more than others. Here are a few of my favorites. Have you read any of these?

  • Night Circus, Erin Morgenstern
  • The Paris Wife, Paula McClain
  • Before I Go to Sleep, S.J. Watson
  • These Things Hidden, Heather Gudenkauf

Some of my faves from the years are:

  • Unbroken, Laura Hillenbrand
  • The Book Thief, Marcus Zusak
  • The Glass Castle and Half Broke Horse, Jeanette Walls

And that’s just a few of them!

It’s a good thing Monday is a rest day since I am so sore from my weekend workouts. Last night I did 60 sit ups, 1 minute of Russian Twists, 1:30 Plank and various leg and arm weights and ran 2 miles on the treadmill. Tried some new weights as well since it was a light crowd there.

I took advantage of the 15% coupon that Handful bra provided during the giveaway. I ordered the adjustable bra in black. I never really could figure out the hype around this bra until I got mine! Mine came in Friday and I’ve worn it twice this weekend, once to run and once to the gym. Don’t worry I did wash it in between! I am in love. (Guys reading this, just skip this part!) Seriously what woman wouldn’t love a bra that doesn’t flatten, no more uni-boob! You can wear this as a daily bra but it will be primarily for my workouts and now I need one in every color!

The packaging is nice, it comes in a black mesh bag that goes in the washing machine with your bra, then hang it up to dry.

I was unsure on the sizing, whether to order larger or go with the sizing chart. I ordered just as they suggested and it fits perfect. Doesn’t dig in my shoulders or sides. I had to pay for my bra, so this is not a thumbs up on a free product I got, I really like it!

Hopefully they will give me the opportunity to have a coupon code again and I highly recommend you take advantage of it!

I had to share the picture of my dinner from last night. It was so good! I’ll even share the recipes with you.

The marinated tomato salad is from Ree Drummond (Pioneer Woman)

The open Caprese sandwich was from Pinterest, but the link isn’t good anymore. So, basically marinate your chicken however you want and grill it or oven bake it. Any kind of bread, we used Sourdough, cut the bread open, I drizzle a little olive oil on the bread and toast it a few minutes. Then place the chicken and mozzarella cheese on the bread, toast it again to melt the cheese. Then add the basil, tomatoes and drizzle a little balsamic and/or olive oil on the top.  Enjoy!

What was your workout today? Are you participating in the Too Hot to Handle challenge?

Russian Twists, oh my!

Happy Saturday! Today was long run day for me, 9 miles done! It was a nice temperature but the wind started picking up the last 4 miles. We still managed to pull out a 10:32 average pace for 9 miles!

Hoping to hit the gym sometime today for just weights.

Are you participating in Too Hot to Handle this month? We have a new exercise this week for you. We are working on getting those Love Handles in check this month, join us any time!

This week’s exercise is Russian Twists coming to you from Sara at She Cooks, She Crafts, She Runs. See the challenge here. Give me a shout and let me know if you are participating. I’ve been able to hold my feet off the ground while doing these for 1 minute so I’ll be working on getting to at least 2 minutes by the end of the week. You can do these without weights as well. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #thth and tag me @howmyworldruns on Twitter and Instagram!

We have a fun Valentine’s giveaway to announce tomorrow! Have a great Saturday!

What are your goals for this weekend?

What I Ate (and did) Wednesday!

It’s been a while since I’ve had a WIAW post. January’s challenge needed my full attention!

Breakfast was a Bagel Thin, with Peanut Butter and Banana. Do you take vitamins? Which ones?

After I dropped Ally off at school I hit the gym for some cardio and weights! Got in a 50 minute workout including planks and V-ups!

Post gym snack was an apple. It tasted soooo good! I was hungry when I left the gym and very proud of myself for not getting a pretzel at Target. They have become my new craving!

For lunch I made my taco soup. It’s so easy, but a little high in sodium because it’s canned items. I use 2 cans Pinto Beans, 1 can Ranch Style, frozen corn, 1 can of Ro-Tel, taco seasoning if you want and ground beef or chicken. Today was ground beef. You can add tortilla strips, avocado, cheese, whatever you’d like to dress it up!

photo-3

Dinner was oven baked chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes are homemade so I control the milk and butter that goes in it.

photo-5

Today was errands and laundry day! I’m shopping for a new vacuum since my sweet Molly chewed the plug off mine last week.

Yesterday I got in 80 V-Ups. Today’s goal is 100!!

Who is participating in Too Hot to Handle? Did you do your V-ups today?

12 miles feels awesome!

I haven’t run this far since October 27, 2012 when I did 13.1 in California! It’s been a battle since then with injuries but I’m coming back strong! It felt so good to get 12 miles today. It was slower than my “usual” pace but these days a run is a run, no matter the pace!

photo-3

We ran some hills and I watched my heart climb to 188! WOW! Next week we taper back down to get ready for race day on February 24!
