January Jumpstart Day 31: Month in review

This is it! Did you hit your goals for the month. I think I did pretty good. I got my nutrition back on track, clothes are fitting a little better. I was able to add an extra day in the gym.

Today is normally my rest day, but I have a gym date with my hubby tonight. YAY! I will take it easy on my legs since I have 20 miles tomorrow!

January Jumpstart

Sara wrote four workouts for us this month. Did you add any of them to your routine?

If you missed them, here they are:

My workout this morning was a 5 mile run with my best running friends! It was windy, windy, windy! But we got it done.

Day 30 is throwback Thursday! This post is from last January’s challenge, it’s about how to use a foam roller.

January Jumpstart Day 24: Workout + giveaway

TGIF! This has been a long week. I’m normally off on Wednesday, but I was off Monday so it makes the week drag on and on…..Plus it messes with my workout schedule.

Friday is my rest day. I didn’t log a lot of miles this week but I got some good workouts in at the gym.

Sara at She Cooks, She Crafts, She Runs has been busy writing us another exercise routine including the demo videos here and here. I have a hard time getting motivated to work out at home. Short workouts like this are easy for me to fit in.

January Jumpstart Day 22: Race calendar + giveaway

Day 22 of January Jumpstart!!

I made my list of races for the year. These are the ones I’m either already signed up for or plan on signing up. I am running a few less races this year than last year. I really want to focus on a few goals.

  • Sub 1:50 half
  • 2nd Full marathon for the year

RACES 2014

I’m already signed up for all of the February races. The Cowtown races will earn me the challenge medal again with the 5k and full. Cowtown has great races and I’m excited to be a part of it again. (Discount code CT14HMWR)

The Renegade Run in March is a run my running club puts together. You pick the distance up to 26.2 and run whatever you want. It’s a point to point run. This will be my first year to participate, I need to decide on the distance.

April will be my first time to run a Zooma race. It’s near Austin, TX in the hill country. It’s a good thing there are hills here for me to train. It’s going to be a challenge and a fun weekend! (Discount code for this one is TXAMB9)

I haven’t signed up for the Too Hot to Handle race yet. I ran it last year and it rained and was cool/cold that day in July. It was definitely not too hot!

And October will ideally be my PR for the year. That’s formerly the Allstate race, the course is flat and it holds my PR as of right now.

My plan is to sign up for Dallas again. I have to conquer that race! I’m really hoping there will be a great incentive for the 2013 racers to sign up since we didn’t get to race.

I like races, it keeps me motivated. I like a mix of fun races and races that really push me. I know I won’t be placing in the longer distance races, so it’s a race against myself.

And to keep things exciting we have a 1 day giveaway from Swiftwick!

January Jumpstart Day 5: marathon training

It’s the weekend but it’s not time to slack. Lately the weekends have been a food fest for me. I know that has to be stopped. I’ve been good at tracking my food since January 1. It will be harder on long run days but I’ll do my best to log it all. I know I will need to replenish at least half of those burned calories.

7 more weeks, it’s time to get serious! (again)

Will it ever end?

Yesterday was my 2nd 18 miler and it was mostly good. My partner and I both seem to hit the wall at 16. I know mine was food, or lack of it. I have to get better at eating something more substantial prior to these long runs. I had granola before, a banana mid-way and a few chews. But it was definitely not enough. I’m sure it didn’t help that we aren’t good at pacing ourselves for the long runs. We ran the first 9 at or below 9 minute pace, it needed to be closer to 9:30 pace.

18 miles 1-4

Training this week:

Sunday: Rest day

Monday: Gym day, 2 miles of intervals on the treadmill, abs, sauna and weights

Tuesday: 8 mile run, 9:21 pace

Wednesday: Gym day, elliptical, stretching, abs, sauna

Thursday: Gym day, 3 miles of intervals on the treadmill and 10 minutes in the sauna

Friday: Rest day

Saturday: 18 miles, 9:23 pace.

We stopped for breakfast today following our run. I had an omelette with bacon, fruit and a biscuit. It was so good! I did not however, take an ice bath after. And I am paying for it today. I am so sore.

I got home, showered, started some laundry and then Ally was begging to go somewhere. I think the realization that school starts tomorrow was starting to get to her. So, after 3 hours of running I did 3+ hours at the mall. Not smart.

Tonight with be lots of stretching and maybe a kettlebell video.

This was my wild Saturday night: pajamas, ice pack and stick roller.

Last Saturday on the hilly route for 10 miles, my IT band started hurting. I’ve never had that happen before. I was having to walk hills, up and down hill. So, I’ve had this Dynamic Tape sitting around waiting to be used, but hoping I wasn’t injured and had to use it. I busted it out and Saturday I had no pain. Not sure if it was the tape or the flatter route. I will try it again on a hilly route this week. It was my first try and I probably used a little more than needed. But, I love the tape and the design is so funky!

We drew the winner of the first Swiftwick drawing, contrats Monica Y!

Have you ever used a sports tape for an injury?

January Jump Start: let’s do this!

Today is the day we kick things off! Maybe you are already working out, maybe you just need a little push or maybe today is the day you are starting. Wherever you are, glad you are here. We have some fun things lined up!

If you didn’t see the intro post, it’s here and you can still join us! Everything is free, we just ask for your participation!

I will weigh and measure Friday this week. I try to do that on a day I’m not working out. It’s too hard to weigh and measure at 4:30 in the morning before heading out for a run. You don’t have to do that, but it will help track your progress.

I’ll admit I have not gotten on the scale in over a month. I know that it’s just a number, but that number has gone up and I’m afraid of it.

A few goals of mine this month:

  • Track food in My Fitness Pal
  • Drink my water!
  • Work on my core
  • No fast food for lunch. This has to be taken a week at a time. It’s a hard one for me.
  • Try something new

Our first giveaway starts today! We have 1 pair of Swiftwick pink compression socks to give away, size Medium. I love compression socks and Swiftwick is one of my favorites! I really believe in compression for support during a run or workout and recovery after. They boost blood flow which aids is muscle recovery after a hard workout. I also think the socks help with shin pain, but I haven’t found anything solid on that. The socks are tight, but not uncomfortable. They are moisture wicking, which all your workout clothes should be. If you are working out in cotton t-shirts you should try moisture wicking clothes just once!  They also prevent blisters.

The sweepstakes in open from January 1, 2014 at 6AM CST until January 4, 2o14 at 8PM CST. The winner will be announced Sunday, January 5, 2014.

It’s a gym day for me today. I need to get back to working on my bench press. I got side tracked during (the first round of) marathon training.

Goals getting crushed!

I am so excited I finally hit a 2 minute plank!!

This morning I ran 3.25 miles at 9:24 pace, got speed work in. Did a mini boot-camp after with sprints, planks and russian twists! Got 40 V-ups done and plan for 40 more tonight!

Shout out to Run Find Your Happy Pace  for hosting a giveaway for Shakeology samples. I won the Chocolate and it was pretty good!

We have winners for the final Swiftwick drawing. Congratulations Leah Frazier, Laurel Cedarblade, Debbie Harris, Shannon, Angela Pak and Nicole Leibee! Watch for an email from me today.

I got 70 V-Ups done yesterday for the Too Hot to Handle challenge! Are you participating? How many did you get done?

#30DayHomies Day 31!!

This is it! Did you stick with us the whole month? I hope you are seeing the results of your hard work.

So, now what? Well, hopefully you started something you are ready to continue! I love that I tried new stuff I tried this month!

  • Yoga
  • Pull up machine at the gym
  • Stair master
  • Spin class
  • Yogurt (baby steps!)

If you weighed and measured at the beginning of January you should weigh and measure in the next few days. Feel free to share your progress! I measured this morning and I think everything was the same. But that’s just a guess since I deleted an email account from my phone it deleted the notes attached to it. I will weigh in the morning.

Yesterday I didn’t make it to the gym, had to take little Molly to the vet and it was early release from school. I did however do some spring cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, laundry, dishes and scrubbing bath tubs is a work out, right? I got over 5,000 steps on my Fitbug.

We still have Swiftwick socks to give away, 6 more pair size small (shoe size 5-7.5). Click on the Rafflecopter link below to enter to win a pair! Ends Monday night at 11:59PM.

Please remember to visit our sponsor’s page and support them whenever you can. We had a great month and their generosity made it even better!

Today’s workout was a 5 mile run, it was 30 degrees colder but a much better run than Tuesday’s was! I will try and squeeze in weights tonight after dinner.

Are you wondering what to do now? Let’s keep the momentum going with a new challenge starting tomorrow!

What was your workout today? Tried anything new lately?

Don’t forget all the giveaways this week! Check the daily blog post for details!

#30DayHomies Day 19 ~ we have winners!

It’s Saturday which means a few things ~ it’s long run day for me and we have winners!

I got in 6.2 miles this morning, I’m soooo excited!

Tried out my new Asics Gel Cumulus and they felt good, foot feels good. Hoping it stays that way!

Anyone use a pedometer? Hubby and I started wearing them last December as part of the wellness program his company offers. We get points for physical activities, days with steps over 5k and 10k, etc. There’s a point system and we can buy things with the points.

A few weeks ago mine got washed but I was able to save it after putting it in a bag of rice.  Then last week I lost it, looked everywhere. I ordered my new one last night and guess what Ally finds this morning in the hood of her clean shirt? My Fitbug, apparently I was putting up laundry and it somehow fell of my waistband and ended up in the hood of her shirt…I’m puzzled at how that happened but it’s found. And now hopefully I can cancel the order I placed last night!

Thanks again to our awesome supporters this week ~ Headsweats and Swiftwick. Drumroll please….the winner of the Headsweats hat is Sarah Gabriel!

And the winners of the Swiftwick Socks this week are Carey Bomgren, Alma McClintock, Jessica Thompson and Rachel Mano’o!

You all should receive an email from me verifying your address.

#30DayHomies Day 16

We had some crazy weather here yesterday! Forecast called for 10% chance of precipitation which usually means nothing. Went to the gym at 5AM and it was sleeting. By the time I got home and showered we had a full snow storm going on complete with thunder and lightning. We ended up with about 2 inches here.

The dogs really like the snow!

Today’s workout was 30 minute Nike Training workout and 1 mile run! I tried out the Newton’s and they felt pretty good.

I worked on our album from Disney World from 2010….yes I’m a little behind. I spent a few hours working on a digital album only to figure out that Shutterfly won’t let me add pages to the book I chose. I’m beyond frustrated.

Don’t forget about the giveaways this week ~ Swiftwick and Headsweats! See Day 14 for details.
