2014: My year in racing {link-up}

Thanks to Montana over at Pretty Lil Mudder for hosting this link up!

  2014- My year in racing

Here is my run down of racing this year!

  • Most Scenic Course: Dallas Marathon, this course went all over Dallas. There was always something to see. Lots of pretty houses, Greenville Avenue, White Rock Lake, Highland Park Fire Station had a flag flying over the street, it was amazing to see! I’ll get the re-cap up soon.
  • Best Expo: Dallas Marathon. Lots of exhibitors, lots of freebies plus I found a great pair of Sunglasses and snagged a FlipBelt.

Dallas expo

  • Best Post-Race Food & Beverages: Cowtown. They had the usual but also had soup and ice cream.
  • Best Swag: Cowtown. I got 3 shirts and 2 medals for 2 days of running.
  • Most Unique Medal: Cowtown. It’s a 3 year series, all buckles.
  • Favorite Race Shirt: DRC Half (Dallas Running Club). It’s long sleeve, tech and bright pink.
  • Favorite Overall Race: I guess DRC Half. As far as races go, they were all well run, good courses, but DRC now holds my PR. It was during a rough time and I needed that race and needed to know that I could do it.
  • Best Course Support (aid stations, volunteers, people cheering you on, etc): Dallas Marathon
  • Race You Are Most Proud of Yourself for Completing: Patriot Half, I fought real hard to just finish this one. Set out to make this my first 1:50 half but it became about finishing on my feet. That was a rough day. You can find the recap here.
I had a lot of races this year, lots of goals. Some of them a little lofty (ie. marathon goal). It’s ok to have lofty goals, but I also needed a realistic goal. I accomplished a lot this year, had some set backs, but am pushing through.

New Orleans Rock N Roll is January 26, 2015. It will be my first race of 2015. Other than that I don’t have much I’m registered for. I need to make some decisions about what to run next year.

Be sure and check out the other bloggers list, you might find your next race!

Wednesday Wonderfulz final 2

First up is this tan spray from Neutrogena. I’ve only been using it about a week so the results are not great yet. I don’t use it every day either. I’m hoping for just a little hint of color since I’m so pasty!

neutrogena

Definitely have to have bright colored nail polish. I will however spare you the picture of my toes, they are a little jacked up still. Anyone else have runner toenails???

nail polish

My super cute purple chevron cup filled with water. This cup goes everywhere with me!

And salads. I love this pasta salad, it’s so easy to make. Pasta, broccoli, turkey, ham, purple onion, cheese, tomato, bacon and mayonnaise.

Throwback Thursday {link-up}

I am loving this Throwback Thursday link-up. I’ve been going through old posts and reading race re-caps. It’s been fun!

TBT final link up

Here is the re-cap of my very first half marathon, it’s also one of the first posts I wrote so it’s kinda blah. Not too many pictures and the paragraphs are all run together. It was on the Blogger platform and now I’m on WordPress, so things are a little wonky.

Hope you enjoy it!

Wednesday Wonderfulz final 2

I have a few new-to-me songs in my list as well as some old faves. As you can see I like all kinds of music. My playlist is all over the map. Only thing I don’t really like is profanity. I usually search for the “clean” version of the song.

I am not a good singer but I love to sing in my car. I turn up the radio and sing. When the weather is nice I like to open the sun roof too, but then I usually stop the singing. (nobody needs to hear that)

Wednesday Wonderfulz #3, the running edition

This week’s Wednesday Wonderfulz has a theme: Running Gear. Fitnessmomwinecountry and I are sharing our favorites!

These are a few of my favorites, but the only thing you really have to have are running shoes!

First off: shirts and shorts. I recommend sweat wicking. I got this Nike top at TJ Maxx for a great price. I prefer compression shorts over wind type shorts. The compression shorts keep my legs from rubbing together. Some brands even have zipper pockets in them. My favorite right now are the Under Armour ones, I get them from Sports Authority. I also have a pair from JC Penney in their Xersion brand.

shirt and shorts

Next up is shoes and socks. Everyone has their favorite shoe and you should get fitted for the shoe that’s right for you. I personally wear Asics and have been for about 1.5 years. My current favorite socks are the Feetures brand.

socks and shoes

Headbands. Some people wear hats, I mostly prefer a headband. Bondi Band is my favorite year round. In the winter it can cover my ears to help keep them warm. But in the summer when I don’t need that I like the thin head bands, there are several companies that make them.

headbands

Sports bras: My current favorite is one from Champion at Target. Next favorite is Handful, and actually I’ve been wearing that more as a “weekend” bra instead of for running. They are so comfortable. That’s something you really can’t skimp on either. :-)

sports bras

There are a few other accessories I use. Since I run in the dark unless I’m racing I carry a Knuckle Light, I highly recommend it. I also use a Nathan hand held water bottle a lot these days and a SpiBelt to put my phone, ID and car key in. As long as I have it tight enough it doesn’t bounce. I wear it a lot and sometimes it gets loose.

So, those are my favorites these days. There are lots of extras like GPS watches, iPods, headphones, but none of those are really necessary in order to run.

What are your favorite running items?

One thing you can’t live without?

Did you workout today?

You can link up your Wednesday Wonderfulz posts until Sunday evening, May 11! Don’t forget to head over and check out Lynda’s favorites at Fitnessmomwinecountry.

Have a great day!

I am loving Bio-Freeze this week. I know, I know, I’m exciting. But when your quads hurt like mine do this week you need it.

This heater is definitely wonderful! It’s kept me warm this winter and has a fan option, if it ever gets warm enough to use it. It sits in my bathroom where it’s either a meat locker or sauna, depending on the day of the week. It’s the little things these days. :-)

I got this sample make up primer from Ulta and I love it. It feels really silky on my skin and it works. I need to finish up the other brand I have and then I’ll buy this one.

Ulta matte prime

And how about these shoes?? I found them on this blog and of course had to get them. Plus side, they were $15 from Target. Can’t beat that! They are going to be great to wear this spring and summer.

Friday Five {link-up}

I’m headed out of town today for the Zooma Texas race. I thought it’d be a perfect day to try the Friday Five link-up with Cynthia at You Signed Up for WHAT.

Friday five link -up button

Usually they pick a theme, but this week is a random 5. So, here goes.

5 things you probably didn’t know about me:

1. I got married at 19 and yes, we are still married. 18 years this year.

2. I’m a very picky eater, but have gotten a lot better over the last few years.

3. I started running at age 35.

4.  I have very curly hair and have straightened it every day until last May. I’m finally starting to embrace my curls.

5. I love to take pictures but haven’t printed one out in years. This makes me a little sad.

Me and the Mr. last year sometime.

What’s something random people may not know about you?

Have a great weekend!

Wednesday Wonderfulz final 2

There’s no theme this week, we are just sharing a few things that we deem wonderful.

First on my list is the Deva Curl products. I am late to this party, I have seen lots of recommendations online for these products. I have crazy naturally curly hair and I have tried quite a few products but nothing works like Deva Curl does. I bought the sample pack from Ulta to try it out and then ended up ordering the large bottles on Amazon.

2014-03-06 06.41.14

Next on my list are my new favorite socks, Feetures Brand. I came across these socks as an ambassador for Zooma. I received a few complimentary pairs and have since bought a pair to start building up my collection. They just hug my feet and feel really good. And of course they are pictured here with my new shoes. New shoes are definitely wonderful!

feetures

PB2. Love it. And I know I’m not even using it in everything I could. I have a great recipe here for Lo Mein noodles, my family loves this!

I am loving this weather right now. It can’t get more perfect these days. Low’s in the upper 40′s and 50′s and high’s in the 70′s. We’ve had a little bit of rain, but we need lots and lots of it here. I’m going to enjoy these temps before it’s time to start complaining about the heat.

So that’s my Wednesday Wonderfulz this week.

Wednesday Wonderfulz {new link-up}

I’m so excited to start co-hosting this new link-up with Lynda at Fitnessmomwinecountry.

Do you have any favorites of yours? Of course you do. It can be a job change, new outfit, favorite hair products, food, recipes, toys? You get the idea. We are sharing anything and everything we deem wonderful on Wednesday. We are going to start this link up on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. What a great way to have a “virtual” show and tell for fellow bloggers and readers.

  Wednesday Wonderfulz final 2

First…let’s spread the word and let everyone know! Go ahead and copy and paste the graphic into your side bar or your post and link back to http://howmyworldruns.com.

The game plan….set your blogging calendar to plan on meeting/linking up every 1st and 3rd Wednesday per month.  These linkups are fun, easy to do and quick.

Why? To share the latest or the maybe not so latest faves we love. Either trending or just plain old school.  We might have many of the same on our lists, who knows. This is a fun way to get to know more about one another as bloggers.

How will this work?

  • Two Wednesday’s per month How My World Runs and Fitnessmomwinecountry will host the link-up.
  • Blog your Wednesday Wonderfulz and add your link in our post with Inlinkz. Be sure and include the button in your post and/or sidebar.
  • The first link-up will start April 2nd
  • If you are not linking up, this will be a fun read for you and a great way to meet new bloggers or see familiar ones.

Besides the blog, be sure and share it across your social media.

  • Hashtag for Twitter, Google+ and Instagram, #WednesdayWonderfulz
  • Be sure and tag @howmyworldruns and @fitnessmomwinecountry
