Marathon Monday: training update

8 weeks and counting! I’m starting to feel a little more confident about my next full, but still doubting my sanity at about mile 17 of 20. My friend and I decided sane people don’t run 20 miles. Sane people are at home drinking coffee, reading the paper, doing normal things. Of course I remember how much I like to eat then remembered why I run!

Training this week:

Monday: Rest day

Tuesday: 5 miles, average pace 8:55

Wednesday: 3 miles, average pace 9:06, followed by upper body weights at the gym

Thursday: 8 miles, average pace 9:12

Friday: Rest day

Saturday: Rest day

Sunday: 20 miles

I didn’t upload my watch from yesterday yet, I think we averaged about 9:25 per mile. We did stop for a short break at mile 9 and took a few short walk breaks.

I haven’t run 20 miles since February. It wasn’t as bad as I was afraid it would be, but miles 14-17 weren’t easy and 19 was the longest mile of my life! Grabbed some breakfast tacos after. I should have taken a picture of the tacos, they are huge and I probably could have eaten 6 of them!

The weather was perfect Sunday morning, the lake was beautiful. There were so many people out running and biking. It’s a 9 mile loop so we went twice then hit one of the paths for a mile out and back. It’s a nice change of scenery to run different routes.

I have the Michelob Ultra 13.1 half this coming Saturday. I’m going for a PR. They changed the route since last year, it has a lot less turns that it did.
