Aha moment

I’ve been running for 2 years now. I’ve been almost in constant training for a race or just to improve my speed or build on distance. There’s been times when I wasn’t but not for long. I need that next race to keep me going, I need that drive.

Last night got me thinking about the last 4 months of training. I’ve loved it (maybe not the 4:30AM alarms 4 days a week). But overall, I have loved the running, the training, getting to know new friends that I’ve been running with. But I’m running right now because it’s on the schedule. I’m running to train. Whether it’s a certain pace or a certain mileage. I enjoy it, but yesterday morning I really enjoyed it.


I don’t know what was different, but it was just one of those runs that clicked. It wasn’t fast or slow, the weather was good, I had most of my crew with me.

So, I decided to take the 2 and 1/2 weeks left of marathon training and just run and really enjoy it. It doesn’t mean I won’t push myself a little. But not every run has to be fast. I still have to stick to my plan. No sense in abandoning it all now. But I don’t have to worry about pace or time now. I’m trained and it’s as good as it’s going to get. There’s nothing I can do now to change the outcome of the race. I want to finish standing up and uninjured.

So, less than 3 weeks left, it’s all tapering from here. Hopefully just focusing on the love of running will help me not go crazy! Time to eat good, sleep and get these last few runs in.

    Man, I’ve never been a fan of running. Walking, sure, running? no! hahaha
    But I really wanted to “run/walk” in a 5k race so I did last year. I trained a little bit and it was the most running I’ve ever done in my life, but it was so rewarding at the end. 🙂 Also, there was chocolate at the end so that made me pretty happy.
    Enjoy your last couple of weeks!! Can’t wait to see how your marathon goes! It will all be worth it 🙂

    I don’t think I have. I imagine I would remember that lol. But I love seeing other people’s ah ha moments. =)

    I have certainly had ah-ha moments. My most recent one was about running burnout. I haven’t written down my reflections yet, but figuring it out in my head was such a light bulb moment for me!

      I don’t think I’m burned out, but I am looking forward to at least a short break in December. 🙂 I’m ready to get more weight training in and other cardio. Maybe try out that Nike class I love!
